A Parent’s Getaway Guide to Orlando

A getaway vacation with my husband was long overdue! As parents, there’s hardly get enough time to spend on date nights much less an entire weekend to ourselves. Hence, the excitement for our very first stay-cation in Orlando, Florida! As some of you may know David was absent throughout the entire Summer, he stayed back in St.Louis to finish up his degree and manage work things too.

Once he arrived in Florida last month (August) I already had an entire 2-day “baecation” or “baby-moon” organized with Visit Orlando. Considering that I am 8 months pregnant we weren’t able to do many high intensity or extremely fast-pace activities, so this mini getaway was definitely guided & focused on a more relaxed experience. Below you can find my personal suggestions within the Orlando area that will gurantee an exceptional getaway for you & the boo!

Where To Stay

4 Star Hotel: Lake Buena Vista Resort & Spa

Orlando is a decent sized city, therefore, the overwhelming choices for hotels/resorts are endless. After looking into their website & amenities I decided to go with LBV Resort. Not only did we end up with a TWO bedroom suite but we had our own private Jacuzzi jet tub in our room as well! Talk about the ideal romantic night-time bath.

The next morning at LBV we made our own breakfast, these suites are designed to feel like home away from home. We were able to hang out by the pool & jet spa downstairs for a little while too. This time of year it’s hardly crowded which I enjoyed dearly.

Reflections Spa

Their spa is located in the lobby building. The experience was phenomenal too! They offer a large variety of packages and services that will leave you feeling like a true royal. I was lucky to receive a complimentary “island bliss signature pedicure”. I can definitely say this isn’t your ordinary pedicure, top of the line relaxation for an hour to say the least with healing benefits for your feet. Exactly what every pregnant lady needs!

Overall my experience at this resort was pleasant and exactly what I had in mind: serene + soothing. Be sure to check Lake Buena Vista out on social media for more vacation inspo!

What To Eat

Brunch: K A S A

183 S Orange Ave, Orlando, FL

Natural light, modern background music, airy vibes! That’s the atmosphere you walk into at this restaurant. I discovered KASA through Google as it was named one of Orlando’s best joints for brunch & dinner! There’s no denying that I love food, but their brunch buffet was beyond my expectations. Even my husband raved on & on about how great everything was. Personally, I favor fresh & natural taste which is how their food is prepared. Out of all the places I’ve gone for breakfast in the area this is my top pick for sure! I’m happy to say KASA was our first eating stop during the vacation.

If you’re looking for a taco twist this is the spot to go! Bartaco instantly gives you hip and modern vibes as you walk by all the greenery on your way inside. You can choose to sit in dim light (for dinner) or enjoy the fresh air and plants outdoors. We had the opportunity to come by for dinner and try a few of their tacos; #bartacosecret (lobster), chicken & chorizo. THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The salsa was probably one of my favorites and my husband absolutely died over the Keylime pie. Our service was simply on point too! There’s not one thing we didn’t love about Bartaco Dr. Phillips!

Dinner: T H E . P O L I T E . P I G

1536 Buena Vista Dr, Orlando, FL (Disney Springs near Lime Garage)

Eating local is a pretty big deal for my husband & I. We love homemade meals and locally sourced ingredients! At The Polite Pig you can be sure that you’re receiving just that along with some of the highest quality meats & southern made goods. The barbecue smoke is delicious both on the half chicken and brisket which is what we ordered. I loved the Southern hospitality as well; our server was extremely attentive and made sure that we were well taken care of! If you’re in need of an authentic (and fast) southern BBQ fix this is the place to go in Orlando. For a more slow paced, upscale dining experience be sure to check out their sister restaurant The Ravenous Pig.

What To Do

Morning Activity: Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour

312 E Morse Blvd, Winter Park, FL

As soon as we arrived, our first stop was a lovely scenic boat tour in downtown Winter Park. David and I had never been on a boat tour before, we were excited to see what it had to offer. It was early in the morning and to be honest I think that’s the best time of the day to do something like this. Our tour guide took us out on several surrounding lakes and canals. He showed us some of Winter Park’s finest mansions and nothing couldn’t beat that green-scenery. It was a great start to our getaway, one hour of Florida’s natural beauty! Perfect day-date!

Afternoon Activity: Orlando Museum of Art

2416 N Mills Ave, Orlando, FL

I personally adore art museums. I couldn’t do a getaway with my husband without visiting one. I’m into the modern and contemporary exhibits the most, while my husband enjoys the abstract sculptures more. OMA isn’t a huge museum, so it took us about a good hour to browse through the different exhibits. One of my favorite exhibitions was the Babylon Odyssey which is open now until December 31st.

Early Evening Activity: The Spa Orlando

2626 Edgewater Dr, Orlando, FL

We saved one of the best places for last! Right before we headed back home we made a stop at this reputable (ranked in the top 3 of Orlando) spa. As soon as we walked in we felt very welcomed! It was David’s first time getting a REAL professional massage too, so I know he was a bit nervous! I opted out of a massage and went for a deluxe manicure, my nails needed the love. My husband’s experience was the most relaxed he’s felt in a while he said and my service was exceptional as well. Very friendly and professional staff! They sell bath bombs, shea butter, and other skincare goodies. What I really liked about this location is the size. Large and busy spa’s tend to give me anxiety, but this atmosphere was quiet and pretty intimate. Perfect way to end our getaway!

Any-time Activity: Downtown Winter Park Historic District

On our last day we decided to go for a stroll down historic Winter Park. I knew I’d be walking around quite a bit so I made sure to wear my Moms The Word gear. Their soft and breathable apparel makes it easier for me to feel comfortable while out & about.

Anyway, Winter Park downtown is absolutely gorgeous; from the shops, architecture, scenery, etc. If you enjoy doing some shopping while on vacation or visiting local restaurants this is one of the cutest districts you don’t wanna miss!

We are so grateful that we had the opportunity to spend this alone time together before baby #2 comes along. Huge thanks Visit Orlando for our VIP passport, cool offers, and hosted activities! It was such a pleasure to work with our city of Orlando and can’t wait to staycation again!
